Bleed Radiators

Due: 15/10/2026 Frequency: Annually
Mark Complete
Overview

Release trapped air from hot water radiators to ensure your heating system runs efficiently and effectively during the cold winter months.

Instructions
Complete All
1. Turn off your heating: Let your system cool down for at least an hour. This keeps you safe from burns.
2. Gather your tools: You need a Radiator Key or flathead screwdriver, an old towel, and a small bowl.
3. Locate the bleed valve: The valve is usually at the top end of the radiator.
4. Catch the drips: Place your towel and bowl directly under the valve to protect your floors.
5. Open the valve: Insert your key and turn it counter-clockwise about a quarter turn.

Type:Hot Water Radiator
Tools Needed
  • Radiator Key (or Flathead Screwdriver)
  • Small Rag or Towel
  • Small Bowl or Cup
Safety Instructions
Work in order: If you have a multi-story home, start with the radiators on the bottom floor and work your way up.
Watch for dirty water: Water escaping from the valve may be dark or dirty. Wipe it up immediately with a rag so it does not stain your floors.
Dry the area: Ensure the bleed valve is totally dry when you finish so you can easily spot new leaks later.

Smart Calendar

Never miss a maintenance window again. Honeydew's AI automatically helps to schedule your tasks based on your home's specific needs, Canadian seasons, and equipment age — so you stay ahead of costly problems instead of reacting to them.
